PhD defence, Friday, 24 February 2017. Jens Kvist Madsen.
During his PhD studies, MSc. (Eng.) Jens Kvist Madsen investigated interactions between surfactants and proteins. Protein structure and stability plays a key role in a variety of industries, such as detergents, foods and pharmaceutical formulation.
Jens Kvist Madsen has studied the stability of detergent enzymes and pharmaceutical peptides. These have been studied with conventional chemical surfactants and novel biological surfactants (biosurfactants). The research results show that biosurfactants are surprisingly mild in their protein-interactions and therefore have a great potential as a green alternative to chemical surfactants. Jens Kvist Madsen has furthermore studied aggregation and formulation of the peptide hormone glucagon that is used to regulate blood sugar in diabetic patients.
PhD degree was completed at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Science and Technology, University of Aarhus and Zealand Pharma A / S.
