Professor Torben Heick Jensen, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, carries out research in a field that covers the regulation and quality control of gene expression at both the DNA and RNA level. During the last decade, his research group has contributed to mapping molecular mechanisms that help classify the genetic expression of human cells in useful products, and in products that must be quickly removed to avoid pathological conditions. The basic scientific approach to this research is therefore immediately relevant to biomedicine.

Briefly about Torben Heick Jensen

Professor Jensen spent three years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Brandeis University, Boston, USA. In 2001, he was appointed assistant professor and subsequently associate professor and, in 2010, he was appointed professor at the former Department of Molecular Biology.

In 2004, the Novo Nordisk Foundation awarded him the prestigious five-year Hallas Møller Stipend. In 2005, the Danish National Research Foundation awarded him a five-year grant to set up a Centre of Excellence called the Centre for mRNP Biogenesis and Metabolism. Following an international assessment, this grant was extended for a further five years until 2015, so the grant for the ten-year period amounted to almost DKK 80 million.
