Lingzhao Fang: Opening the “black box” of genomic architecture behind complex traits contributes to genomic prediction
PhD defence, Tuesday 23 May 2017. Lingzhao Fang
A better understanding of the genetic architecture behind complex traits would be beneficial for genomic prediction of disease risk in personalized medicine and that of genetic merit in breeding livestock and plant species of agricultural importance. During his studies, Lingzhao Fang has developed and applied genomic feature models incorporating prior biological information to explore the genetic architecture and genomic prediction for complex traits in dairy cattle. He showed that genomic feature models provided novel insights into the genetic and biological basis of complex traits as well as improved the accuracy of genomic prediction.
The research findings contribute to the use of biological information to open the “black box” of genetic architecture and to improve genomic prediction for complex traits in livestock populations.
The PhD degree was completed at the College of Animal Science and Technology, China Agricultural University, and the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University.
