Vahid Edriss: Choosing the best cattle with more accuracy
PhD defence, Friday 14 December 2012. Vahid Edriss.
Selecting the best cattle for production is one of the biggest challenges in cattle breeding programmes and industry. Nowadays, the most effective way to recognise the best cattle is through its genomic information. It is therefore very important to predict an animal’s genetic potential more accurately and as early in its life as possible.
During his PhD studies, Vahid Edriss looked at ways to improve the accuracy of predicting an animal’s genetic potential by utilising the genomic data more efficiently. Being able to predict genetic potential more accurately could lead to selection of the best animals as parents for the next generations.
The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
