The researchers at DANDRITE investigate the molecular mechanisms that control the signalling and communication pathways in the brain and nervous system. These are of great importance for behaviour, senses and consciousness, as well as for neurological and psychiatric conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, depression and schizophrenia.
DANDRITE stands for “The Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience”, and plays on the word ”dendrite”, the network structure of nerve cells. Translational neuroscience encompasses that we aim for translating the new knowledge into new strategies in diagnostic and clinical practice for neurological and psychiatric diseases, as well as drug discovery and spin-out activities.
DANDRITE was established at Aarhus University in 2013 by the Lundbeck Foundation and Aarhus University, and is the Danish node of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Biology. At Aarhus University, DANDRITE is organizationally placed at two departments: Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (Faculty of Science and Technology) and Department of Biomedicine (Faculty of Health).
The core group at DANDRITE is Professor Poul Nissen from Dept. Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Professor Anders Nykjær and Professor Poul Henning Jensen, both from Dept. Biomedicine. In accordance with the EMBL tradition, DANDRITE has recruited five group leaders (Anne von Philipsborn, Mark Denham, Duda Kvitsiani, Keisuke Yonehara, and Sadegh Nabavi) from across the globe to establish a thriving, cutting-edge research environment that brings in a unique range of neuroscience research ideas and methodologies. DANDRITE also hosts visiting scientists and collaborates with the Danish research community through associate research programs. In total, there are more than 70 staff and students affiliated with DANDRITE, where approximately half are non-Danes.
Below you see the list of researchers at DANDRITE affiliated with the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.
DANDRITE also has staff employed at the Department of Biomedicine. See full list of staff at DANDRITE here.
DANDRITE Group leaders and Team leaders accept project students, master students and PhD students in neuroscience - please contact us! Projects of different duration and level available. Call for PhD students 4 times a year.
