We are interested in how mTOR and ATR signalling works at the atomic level. mTOR is a major regulator of cell metabolism and ATR regulates the DNA-damage response, and even though these two kinases exert very different biological functions they likely share some of the same regulatory principles. We use X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to gain molecular insights of these molecules and use in vivo and in vitro experiments to test our structures and get a deeper understanding of their functions. Ultimately we want to understand how these signalling pathways contribute to diseases like cancer and diabetes.
