Ewa Molska: Diverse RNA classes use common maturation pathways

PhD defense, Tuesday 10 April 2018 Ewa Molska

Ewa Molska

During her studies, Ewa Molska researched the processing and transcription termination pathways of RNAs. In eukaryotic cells RNA polymerases transcribe diverse classes of genes from a DNA template. The produced RNAs need to be targeted to their appropriate cognate biochemical maturation pathways. Specific protein complexes are involved in processing of different groups of RNAs to ensure their functionality. Ewa used a specialised next generation sequencing approach, to investigate roles of three machineries involved in the last steps of RNA processing and transcription termination with a special focus on a  variable class of RNAs called the long non-coding RNAs.

The new findings of her research contribute to RNA classification based on biochemical properties, which enable a better understanding about the biogenesis and possible functionality of transcripts.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
