Jaslyn Wong: The Assessment of Ligand Specificities and Interaction Partners of LysM Proteins

PhD defence, Monday 9 January 2016, Jaslyn Wong.

Jaslyn Wong

uring her PhD studies, Jaslyn Wong focused on structurally and biochemically characterizing Lysin Motif (LysM)-containing proteins from various organisms. The Lysin Motif is a carbohydrate-recognition module that binds surface-derived molecules such as bacterial peptidoglycan and fungal chitin. In addition, LysM proteins also bind carbohydrates secreted by bacteria. Thus, the functions of LysM proteins range from cell expansion in bacterial to defence and symbiosis signalling in plants. The findings from the research conducted by Jaslyn Wong are fundamental for understanding how these processes take place and could aid in the design of antimicrobial drugs and support innovations in sustainable agriculture.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
