Nodule organogenesis

We are interested in the genetic mechanisms underlying the development of the nodule organ in nitrogen fixing symbioses. We study nodule development in the model legume Lotus japonicus with the goal of understanding the process sufficiently in order to engineer a nodule organ on cereals including barley and maize. Central to our work in legumes and cereals is a focus on the genetic mechanisms linking symbiosis with hormone responses and cell division. To study these interactions we use genetics, quantitative microscopy, transcriptional profiling and plant synthetic biology.

Our group receives funding from the InRoot and ENSA consortia.
