RNA Biology and Innovation

RNA plays a central role in all organisms, from the simplest viruses to the largest and most complex animals. The section's research seeks to understand the fundamental roles that RNA plays in living beings, as well as applications of RNA or RNA-inspired technology in biotechnology and biomedicine.

The section studies the basic mechanisms behind RNA's functionality, production, translation and degradation as well as RNA's role in healthy and diseased cells, among others, in the immune system. The section works with the development of RNA technological concepts and pharmacological application of RNA. The basic scientific discoveries and developed technologies can have an impact on human health and disease.

The section's research is based on RNA virus' molecular biology, RNA biology, innate immunology, drug delivery and RNA/DNA nanotechnology, among others. In addition, the section works with a wide range of methods in cell-free systems, cultured cells and laboratory animals. The section has a number of projects that are directly linked to the clinical application of RNA technology.

The section is active in basic science research, patenting, industrial collaborations, clinical collaborations and the establishment of start-up companies.
