Simone Giacometti: The role of the CBC and its associated protein complexes in gene expression

PhD defence, Monday 11 April 2016. Simone Giacometti.

Simone Giacometti

The Cap-binding complex (CBC) plays a key role in gene expression. During his PhD studies, Simone Giacometti used a diversity of approaches to elucidate the role of CBC associated proteins in RNA biogenesis and metabolism. The central focus of Simone’s project has been the utilization of an iCLIP approach to identify the transcriptome-wide targets for several RNA-binding proteins.

In order to characterize yet unknown CBC-interacting proteins, Simone also performed a protein interaction screen leveraging affinity capture, in combination with a formaldehyde-based chemical cross-linking strategy.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University, Denmark in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Genetics of Montpellier (IGMM), Université Montpellier 2, France.
