Work Experience in Plant-PATH

At Plant-PATH we actively encourage students who are interested in a further education in natural sciences to join us for work experience in a molecular biology laboratory. This is a possibility for students at either gymnasium or high-school level.

For more information please contact Leila Margot Henkes at lmh@mbg.au.dk who will get back to you as soon as possible.

Cora's experience at Plant-PATH

Cora was with Plant-PATH at the Pedersen lab for a day in January 2026, at the time she was an 8th grade student from a school in Aarhus.

Postdoc Lynette Nel supervised Cora on the day, taking her through a protein purification which included the necessary steps to go from a sample with a mix of proteins to a sample which contains only the protein(s) of interest. This also included analysing a protein separation gel to analyse how well purified the protein is. Cora gained hands-on experience and very much enjoyed her glimpse into life working in a lab.

I was very happy and excited to be able to do work experience with Bjørn Panyella Pedersen's group, as I’ve always been very interested in seeing what it’s like to work in a lab. I was shown around with an amazing tour and was then able to participate in some experiments, which was really fun and enjoyable. Lynette was the person who I was mainly with during my work experience, and she was absolutely amazing and answered all of my questions and showed me so many new things that I hadn’t known before.
This was for me a dream come true and if I could have another work experience with this group, I 100% would!

Nemo's experience at Plant-PATH

Nemo, a 7th grade student from a school in Aarhus, joined the Pedersen and Kjærgaard labs for three days. Nemo was able to work on protein purifications and also data analysis for the results produced in the lab. He also helped with problem solving and idea generation for future laboratory work.

Natalie's experience at Plant-PATH

Natalie, a high school student, completed a three day work experience at Plant-PATH in Aarhus. During her time with us she crystalised lysozyme and learned about the work necessary to keep a lab running together with Plant-PATH lab manager, Mette Asmussen. Natalie also spent time with a neighbouring group, the Peter Ebert Andersen lab, where she helped with sorting flies, dissecting and feeding them.
