Mai-Britt Brøndum: LysM-genes and their potential role in plant-microbe interaction

During her PhD studies Mai-Britt has conducted research on plant genes with the so-called LysM domain, which are able to bind carbohydrates. In the interaction between plants and microbes it has been shown that much of the communication between plant and microbe relies on the plants recognition of carbohydrates released by the microbe.
Mai-Britt has identified 16 LysM-genes in the model plant Lotus japonicus and investigated their role in the establishment of symbiosis between Lotus japonicus and certain symbiotic root bacteria and fungi. The obtained research results have contributed to the understanding of LysM-genes role in plant-microbe interaction.
The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG), Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
