The city of Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark with about 330,000 inhabitants.
Aarhus is situated on the peninsula Jutland about 300 km from Copenhagen.
How to get to Aarhus by train, ferry, car or bus
by airplane:
- to Billund Airport - 70 min. by car to Aarhus - 1 1/2 hrs by airport bus (there are many international flights to Billund Airport, so this airport might be the best choice)
- to Aarhus Airport (Tirstrup) - 45 min drive to Aarhus by car or airport bus - there are not so many international flights to Aarhus so you might have to fly via Copenhagen and then take a plane from Copenhagen to Aarhus Airport
(35 min. flight + 45 min. by airport bus) - or by train 3 1/2 hrs.
Aarhus Airport/Tirstrup is connected with Copenhagen International Airport with several daily departures. The flight takes 35 minutes. In Copenhagen a free transit bus links the International and Domestic airport terminals. You save about one hour of travelling by taking the plane from Copenhagen to Aarhus rather than the train when you include the transportation to and from the airports, but as there are many more train connections you might get there earlier (and save money) by taking the train (see below). See timetable for the trains: http://www.rejseplanen.dk/bin/query.exe/en? and the airplanes.
In connection with the majority of flights, there is an airport bus service between Aarhus Airport and Aarhus. The bus leaves immediately after the passengers have picked up their luggage. There are predefined stops along the route (including Aarhus University). Tickets are sold on the bus. Accepted currencies are: Norwegian Crowns, US Dollars, Pounds and Euro. Major Credit Cards are also accepted.
Billund Airport, 100 km southwest of Aarhus, has several direct international flight connections:
To and from the airport
There is a bus service from Billund to Aarhus. Travelling time from Billund Airport to Aarhus City is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Tickets are sold on the bus to be paid in cash. The bus stops at the railway station and at the bus station in the centre of the city.
Hamburg in Germany has several international flight connections and is only about 3 hrs' drive from Aarhus.
Aarhus University is located at the university campus a 20-min. walk from the centre of town.
