Rasmus Schøler Sørensen: DNA nanostructures for the intelligent medicine of the future

During the course of his PhD studies, Rasmus Schøler Sørensen worked on developing DNA-based nanostructures used as a platform for medical transport systems.
Nanostructures can be used to make medical treatments more efficient by precisely transporting medicine to the organs and cells that need it. DNA can be used to make well-defined structures on a nanoscale with virtually arbitrary shapes and patterns. This makes DNA nanostructures well suited for screening different shapes with different ligands on the outside to find the designs that are optimal in therapeutic contexts.
In his PhD project, Rasmus S. Sørensen designed and characterised functional DNA structures, and he evaluated their usefulness in transporting drugs. His project led to the development of new methods for efficiently producing DNA structures with patterns of proteins and polymers on the surface.
The PhD degree was completed at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Centre (iNANO), Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
