Simon Asbjørn Larsen:The discovery of recombinant antibody fragments binding breast cancer tissue

PhD defence, Tuesday 31 March 2015, Simon Asbjørn Larsen

Simon Asbjørn Larsen

Breast cancer specific antibodies may unravel novel discoveries in biomarkers and aid better stratification of patients.

During his PhD studies, Simon Asbjørn Larsen worked on the selection of recombinant antibody fragments by phage display. A method was developed to perform selections on a minute target area of breast cancer cells in tissue sections. Several of the selected antibody fragments were found to be breast cancer specific by immunohistochemistry experiments.

Further characterization of the selected antibody fragments and their cognate antigens may contribute to our understanding of breast cancer subpopulations and the development of individualized treatment strategies.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
