Second research exchange within Plant-PATH: Assia and Johannes visit from Brussels

Over the past few weeks, Pedersen lab had the pleasure of hosting the two PhD students from the Chloé Martens lab in Brussels. Assia joined the lab for three weeks, working closely with Ines, while Johannes spent two weeks collaborating with Alex.

During her stay, Assia worked together with Ines on membrane preparation and the purification of different membrane proteins. In addition to this hands-on experimental work, they carried out cloning of new constructs that will be used for future assays to be developed in the Chloé Martens lab in Brussels once Assia returns. This collaborative effort helped lay the groundwork for continued cross-lab research within the Plant-PATH network.

Johannes collaborated with Alex on protein purification using a peristaltic pump system, with the goal of mastering the purification strategy used in Pedersen lab. The protein construct purified during his visit was a truncation designed to improve protein stability, with the long-term aim of enabling structural resolution of the protein in a desired functional state.

Beyond the lab bench, Assia and Johannes also had the chance to experience a bit of Danish culture. Together with members of the Pedersen lab, they were invited out for Fastelavnsboller—a traditional Danish pastry enjoyed during the celebration of Fastelavn (Shrovetide). The group visited a local café to enjoy this seasonal specialty, rounding off a successful and enjoyable visit both scientifically and socially.

Their visit was both productive and enjoyable, marking the first of many planned exchange activities within the Plant-PATH network.
