Stipendier til støtte til molekylærbiologi- og molekylærmedicinstuderende ved AU

Ranganatha Rajagopal, a former employee at the Department of Plant Physiology, now part of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, has donated a sum of money to the department in honor of former professor Poul Larsen, who was his supervisor at the University of Bergen.

The following are eligible to apply for support from the donation:

Current Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine students with a non-Danish ethnic background

Academically engaged students at the bachelor’s or master’s level may apply for scholarships of up to DKK 70,000 annually, with a possible extension for one year if the study plan is followed. The application must include:

  • A statement of financial need
  • A description of academic interests and career plans
  • A transcript of records

Applicants must also state whether they have applied for support for the same purpose from other sources, including source and amount. There is no requirement for supervisor contact or a letter of support. Please note that the scholarship is taxable and will be reported by AU as B-income.

International students admitted to Molecular Biology or Molecular Medicine programs

Bachelor’s or master’s students may apply for scholarships of up to DKK 70,000 annually, with a possible extension for one year if the study plan is followed.

Scholarship applications can be submitted together with an application for admission to the program. However, the scholarship will be contingent of successful admission, and funds will only be paid once the program has physically commenced at the department.

Supervisors of international students enrolled at a foreign university

Supervisors employed at the department may apply for support for bachelor’s or master’s students from a foreign university. Supervisors may apply for up to DKK 20,000 to support research stays of 1–3 months at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics for international students, e.g., during the summer break or as an extension of an ERASMUS stay. The grant can only be used for specified and well-justified travel and accommodation expenses (see list of covered expenses). Applicants must also state whether other funding for the same purpose has been applied for. The student must not be enrolled at AU at the time of application.

Applicants must be tenure/non-tenure group leaders at MBG and must attach a letter of support and a detailed budget. Applications are processed on a rolling basis.

Supervisors of international students

Supervisors may apply for coverage of expenses related to visas and work and residence permits. This applies, for example, to Erasmus interns and international bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD students from countries where participation would otherwise be difficult without financial support. Covered expenses include:

  • Visa fees
  • Fees for visits to Danish representations
  • Reasonable travel expenses related to visits to Danish representations

Applications are processed on a rolling basis.

Supervisors of potential international PhD students

Supervisors may apply for funding to screen promising, potential PhD candidates at MBG for a period of up to 90 days, including arrival and departure dates. During this period, the student may participate in courses, summer schools, and workshops, as well as carry out laboratory work and prepare a PhD application.

At the time of application, a qualitative assessment of the student’s potential for admission to the PhD program at GSNS will be made, and the supervisor must document that funding for the PhD program is available.

For further information and application for a screening grant, please refer to the separate application form.

Please note:

  • The application must be submitted by the prospective supervisor at MBG. Non-permanent assistant professors/associate professors may also apply if they are grant holders.
  • The stay must be a continuous period of maximum 90 days.
  • It may take 7–8 weeks from approval of an application until the student can begin the stay (depending on nationality, due to visa/work and residence permits).
  • It is not possible to apply for funding for two or more consecutive stays.

Eligibility requirements for candidates/students:

  • Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area for admission onto the MBG PhD programme (biology, molecular biology, etc)
  • Must not have any previous affiliation with Aarhus University (a screening grant cannot be used to extend another planned or ongoing stay at AU)
  • Must have a postal address outside Denmark prior to the start of the stay
  • Must meet GSNS’s English language requirements

All applications will receive a response within one month.

Applications for hosting international students must include the following information:

  • Student’s name
  • Supervisor/group at MBG
  • Education + institution + country
  • Degrees + expected degrees
  • Total stay in Denmark + project period (start/end)
  • ½ page project description
  • Specified expenses (budget)
  • Letter of support from supervisor

Applications for support to cover expenses for visa and work/residence permits must include the following information:

  • Name of group leader
  • Name of guest
  • Guest’s nationality
  • Purpose of visit

To administer the grant, the department has appointed a committee consisting of Ditlev Brodersen, Charlotte Rohde Knudsen, Simona Radutoiu, and Erik Østergaard Jensen.
