More than 10 million people worldwide live with Parkinson's disease, yet current treatments address symptoms rather than the underlying biology. Teitur Trophics was founded in 2020 as a spin-out from Aarhus University with a different ambition: to develop disease-modifying therapies that can slow or halt the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
In this talk, Simon Mølgaard will share the story of building Teitur Trophics from a university discovery to a clinical-stage biotech. From the early science on SorCS receptors as novel drug targets, through BII funding and a €28M Series A, to the recent completion of a Phase I clinical trial of the company's lead candidate, TT-P34, in patients with Parkinson's disease. He will discuss what it takes to translate acade-mic research into a viable drug development program, how the company is structured and financed, and what kinds of scientific and operational profiles are needed at each stage of the journey.
