Anne Louise Grønnemose: Characterisation of how the protein involved in Parkinson’s disease changes from normal to pathogenic

During her PhD studies, Anne Louise Grønnemose researched a protein – called alpha-synuclein – which is present in human brains. All humans have this protein; however, its structure can change so it suddenly can aggregate and yield protein accumulations and this causes Parkinson’s disease. The focus for this PhD has been to characterize how this protein changes from normal to pathogenic. The achieved research results contribute to the understanding of how Parkinsion’s disease arise as a result of the change in this protein.

The PhD degree was completed at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
