AU Life Science Hub is now ready for new tenants

Workers have been busy at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics lately, as moving-in day at the AU Life Science Hub is just around the corner. Soon spin-outs will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and support for business development. The first companies are ready to move in, and now you can attend the open house event on Thursday 3 October 2024.

It is not immediately obvious if you do not know it, but on the 3rd floor of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, there has been a lot of activity. 600m² including five specialised laboratories, access to electronics and mechanics workshops, animal facilities, core facilities, office spaces, and business development support. The ambitions for AU Life Science Hub are high, as it aims to provide the ideal foundation for new spin-out companies within life sciences.

The idea for the AU Life Science Hub originates from the Faculty of Health and Department of Entreprise and Innovation. Aarhus University is already among the leading institutions in Europe when it comes to commercialising research in the life sciences. In less than ten years, the university’s spin-outs have raised over two billion kroner from funds and investors, and every year, groundbreaking research projects spin out into new pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical companies. In other words, innovation is already thriving, and the ambition is for the AU Life Science Hub to support these emerging companies, so that even more have the chance to succeed.

That’s why it has been a high priority to create an environment where new companies have access to modern facilities as well as advice and support in their early stages, says Erik Østergaard Jensen, head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, who will be in charge of the Life Science Hub.

“The ambition is to help companies by providing them with the very best conditions for development and growth. We know that several new spin-outs are either on the way or about to spin out, and the first ones are already moving into the new premises in the University City.”

In a short time, the last screw will be in place, and all the facilities will be ready for the companies. Therefore, Erik Østergaard Jensen also hopes that new spin-outs will apply for a spot at the hub.

“We’ve made a significant effort to create an attractive Life Science Hub that companies can benefit greatly from. They will have access to both office spaces, specialised laboratories, and support for their business development. And it’s right in the heart of the university, so they will be working and developing their company and product close to academic environments, and thereby close to the latest knowledge in their field.”

Open house for everyone interested on 3 October 2024

If you have a spin-out on the way or are simply curious about the facilities in the new Life Science Hub, there will be an opportunity to take a look during the open house on 3 October from 15:00-16:00, where Erik Østergaard Jensen, among others, will be ready to give a tour.

“I hope that many will take advantage of the opportunity and stop by our Life Science Hub. It’s relevant for those who have already founded a spin-out, are considering it, are close to it, or are perhaps just a bit more curious about what we have to offer.”

AU Life Science Hub has state-of-the-art facilities, so the workers have been busy in the lead-up to the opening.
