Professor Bjørn Panyella Pedersen is new member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters

With his membership, he joins one of the country’s oldest and most exclusive scientific communities and becomes part of a long Danish scientific tradition.

Bjørn Panyella Pedersen was appointed Professor of Membrane Protein Biophysics at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, in 2024

As a member, Bjørn Panyella Pedersen becomes part of an interdisciplinary community that offers the opportunity to influence and strengthen the agenda for research in Denmark. The membership also provides access to engage in the Academy’s committees, councils, projects and special initiatives - an opportunity granted to only a few.

“For almost 300 years, the Academy has worked to strengthen Danish research for the benefit of society. There is plenty to take on, and I am very proud to have the opportunity to contribute,” says Professor and DNRF Center of Excellence Director Bjørn Panyella Pedersen.

Since its founding in 1742, the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters has worked to strengthen the position of science in Denmark. It does so, among other things, by promoting basic scientific research, fostering greater interdisciplinary understanding and building bridges between research communities. The Academy also plays a central role in disseminating knowledge.

With his membership, Bjørn Panyella Pedersen enters into a long scientific tradition and helps carry forward the legacy of prominent voices in research, both nationally and internationally. Former members include figures such as the discoverer of electromagnetism, H.C. Ørsted, and atomic physicist Niels Bohr, as well as scientists such as Charles Darwin, Marie Skłodowska-Curie, Albert Einstein and Ferdinand de Saussure.
