PhD conference

  • 9-11 September 2021

The 2021 PhD conference for PhD students at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics will be held on

9-11 September 2021 at Sandbjerg Estate

which is located in the southern part of Jutland.

The conference will consist of both talks from invited speakers, poster sessions for part-A students and short-talk sessions for part-B students. This means that all part-A students must bring a poster and all Part-B students will be giving a the short-talk, this will be a great opportunity to present your work. This means that all part A and all part B students need to submit an abstract when you sign up for the conference. Part B students should be aware that they need to choose a key word for their presentation (see Guidelines for posters and part B talks). You need a 1st and 2nd priority.

You will get 2 ECTS by participating in the conference, and participation is free of charge

The conference is mandatory for all PhD students at the Department. Therefore, if you are not able to attend, you will have to inform Helle Homann at heho@mbg.au.dk

More information on Labbook under PhD Conference 2021.

Deadline for signing up for the PhD Conference: 15 July 2021

Guidelines for posters and part B talks

Poster

Bring a poster in portrait A0 (841 mm × 1189 mm) where you present your PhD project. At the beginning of each poster session, all who have to present in that session will give a 1 minute (1 slide) introduction to their poster. It is important to keep the time - you will not be allowed to talk after 1 minute! In this 1 min you have to present the purpose of your project and why the project is interesting. During the poster session people are free to choose which posters to visit. You should be able to present your poster in 2-4 minutes but are welcome to engage in longer discussion if your audience is interested.

Before the conference you need to prepare:

  • a poster
  • a 1 min introduction with max 1 slide
  • how to present your poster in 2-4 min

Part B talk

You have 7 min to talk about your PhD project. The time is strict, and you will be interrupted when the 7 min have passed. The following 3 min are for questions and change to the next presenter.

Your talk needs to address all the PhD students at MBG. Remember, we work with very different topics. Your talk should give an introduction to the purpose and perspectives of your PhD project and maybe you will have time to go in depth with one topic (could e.g. be about theoretical background, method or results).

When you submit your abstract, you choose one of 4 keywords (listed below) in the category seasons of the  year  to conceptualize your presentation. The keywords are the themes for each of the part B talk sessions, so all presentations will be connected in that associative space. Feel free to be creative when you include the keyword in your presentation - anything is allowed to make the audience see why your talk belongs to that specific category.

The key words are:

  • The dark age (vikings)
  • Renaissance
  • the Industrial Revolution
  • Classical Antiquity
