Bjørn Panyella Pedersen selected as EMBO Young Investigator
MBG Group Leader Bjørn Panyella Pedersen is one of 27 researchers that have been selected to join the Young Investigators Programme of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) in 2019. For the coming four years, he will join this prestigious network of young scientists.
Bjørn Panyella Pedersen is fascinated by the question of how metabolites are transported across cellular membranes. Although these processes are fundamental for all life, the molecular mechanisms that drive these transport processes are far from understood. To gain insights into metabolite uptake mechanisms, he and his group use structural biology as their main method to address research questions that he will now pursue with the support of the EMBO Young Investigators Programme (YIP).
To be selected for the EMBO Young Investigator Programme is a distinction for young principal investigators who have demonstrated outstanding research potential. The EMBO Young Investigator Programme identifies recent group leaders with a proven record of scientific excellence and offers them access to a range of benefits during their four-year tenure. These include a funding award of 15,000 euros, with the potential for additional funding, access to training in leadership skills and responsible research practices, as well as networking opportunities. Additional benefits provided by the Programme include the use of core facilities at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, and travel grants for the Young Investigators and their research groups to attend conferences.
The 27 newly appointed Young Investigators are joining a network of 129 current and 340 former "YIPs". For MBG, it is the fourth time that one of its group leaders has been chosen to join the exclusive group of young talents (former Young Investigators from the department: Torben Heick Jensen, Poul Nissen and Daniel Otzen).
