Jeppe Achton Nielsen: The insulin receptor – how insulin binding causes insulin receptor signaling

During his/her PhD studies, Jeppe Achton Nielsen researched the three dimensional structure of the insulin receptor and investigated how insulin binds and create signaling via the receptor. Insulin receptor signaling is essential for the human body’s ability to regulate blood glucose, reduced insulin receptor signaling is a  hallmark of diabetes.

The new research findings contribute to the understanding of  how insulin activate the insulin receptor, and how the insulin receptor structure is coupled to insulin signaling.

The PhD study was completed at Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University and at Novo Nordisk A/S.
