Jørgen Kjems awarded Semper Ardens grant from the Carlsberg Foundation

The Carlsberg Foundation has awarded Jørgen Kjems DKK 6.1 million to develop a new method that can "translate" the total content in a specific food to digitized information in the form of DNA sequences.

The DNA-SHAPE project entitled "Analysis of complex biological mixtures by a novel method: ”DNA-shapes”, which is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation in the form of a so-called Semper Arden grant of DKK 6.144 million, runs over a three-year period.

Here Jørgen Kjems and his research group intend to develop a novel method which will make it possible to "translate" the total content in a specific food to digitized information in the form of DNA sequences. From advanced computer analysis of DNA sequences it will be possible to obtain a digital fingerprint of the food content, which potentially can be used as a marker for food quality, safety and authenticity.
