Nathalie Krauth: How the communication of brain regions shapes behavior

PhD defence, Thursday 31st of October 2019, Nathalie Krauth.

Nathalie Krauth

During her PhD time, Nathalie Krauth aimed to understand how different brain regions communicate with each other.

Our behavior is shaped by the external information that our brain receives. A large body of research has been devoted to examine which regions within the brain receive a particular information, process them and trigger appropriate behavioral response. The complexity of the brain makes this task daunting.

Nathalie developed a novel technique that allows identification of the regions that communicate with each other to process vital information and to lead animals to take necessary actions. Using genetic tools and viruses, it was possible to label the neurons and their individual inputs to explain how behavior is influenced by the environment.

The PhD degree was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
