Roots and allies - how plants recruit soil microbes for their own benefit

PhD defence, Tuesday 12 September 2023, Anna Martyn

Anna Martyn

During her PhD studies, Anna Martyn researched how plants adjust their metabolome under nutrient starvation and how they coordinate interactions with soil-dwelling microbes for improved plant performance. In this context, Anna studied plant-signalling mechanisms that drive the assembly of root-associated microbial communities and she identified genetic determinants that influence the recruitment of beneficial soil microbes by plants for enhanced resilience in nutrient-limited environments.
The new research findings contribute to the understanding of how we can use beneficial soil microbes to improve sustainability and productivity in today’s agricultural practices.
The PhD study was completed at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG), Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University.
