Guidelines for speakers

The Kjeldgaard Lectures at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics are usually attended by around 100 people, covering both employees at the department as well as Masters and PhD students.

The lectures are an excellent opportunity for our PhD students to learn about diverse subjects in molecular biology, hence we kindly ask our speakers to provide a broad and thorough introduction to the subject starting at the text book level, to make sure that everyone can follow, also those not directly in the field.

Our department hosts groups ranging from plant physiology through cell biology to structural biology - from the most molecular (like x-ray structure) to the most cellular, including people working with development and embryogenesis. More info about the research areas.

We also usually arrange a so-called "after session", where our speakers meet with our PhD students in a very informal atmosphere, as it is our experience that the students are reluctant to ask questions during the main talk. We want this to involve absolutely no extra preparatory work for the speakers, and you can look upon this as an opportunity to meet prospective future postdoc candidates.

The talk should be given in English.

The seminar at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics thus consists of three parts:

  1. a seminar (40-45 minutes including a broad and thorough introduction to the subject)
  2. a coffee break (about 30 min.)
  3. a "chalk-board session" with the department's PhD students, where the students will have a chance to go into more detail with the subject and meet the speaker under less formal circumstances.
