Research

The research is directed at understanding the role of the Na,K-ATPase in neurological disorders. In a series of papers, we reveal the effects on Na,K-ATPase function of mutations causing, aldosterone producing adenomas, renal hypomagnesemia, parkinsonism, cerebellar ataxia, epilepsy, migraine and intellectual disability. We elucidate the underlying mechanistic basis for the compromised function of disease mutants, aiming for therapeutic intervention by pharmaceutical targeting of Na,K-ATPase.

Teaching activities

Teacher of medical students in physiology for more than 30 years, supervisor of master and bachelor students as well as 15 Ph.D. students, and teacher at postgraduate courses. Examiner at molecular biology special exams and a reviewer of Ph.D. dissertations.
